Previously cuvée "Tradition", it was renamed 'LATITUDE' in 2013. It gives a better description of this cuvée, with its fully round, rich, charming style. It is composed exclusively of Chardonnay originating from the same “latitude”: the south of Vertus.
Latitude is 100% Chardonnay with 40% reserves wines from their 'perpetual' reserve started in 2004, than aged on lees for at least 2 years and 6 further months in bottle before release. Dosage is 4g/L.
Pierre's vines are unusually old, an average of 33 years old (In Champagnes larger estates replanting of exhausted vines happens every 25-30 years), and are cultivated in the respect of terroir and plants (biodynamy and essential oils) to express the unique character of these great crus. The soil is ploughed to ensure the roots grow deep into the chalk, preserving the soil‘s life and to moderate the yields… When maturity is optimum, the grapes are picked by hand.
More than two thirds of the wines are aged in casks or in foudres on natural lees for one year before bottling. These are then taken down into the coolness of the cellars for several years.
Latitude is the perfect celebratory Champagne, which still retains the characteristic pureness of this Estate’s Champagnes.
