This is one of the great estates in the Friuli region, arguably Italy’s finest white wine region. It was set up in the early 1990s, although the vineyards were already in place, and consists of 12 hectares of vines in the Collio and Collio Orientale, split between a parcel near Corno di Rosazzo and one near Brazzano. Production is about three quarters white and a quarter red. The main planting is Friulano, although there is also some Malvasia, Ribollo Gialla and Verduzzo. What most of the vineyards have in common is their old age, being around seventy years old. The estate is biodynamic and the wines are bottled unfiltered. Mario likes to give the wine time on the lees, adding weight and complexity. The wines are packed full of character and age incredibly well.
