Sourced from 3 distinct parcels in three lieux-dits, namely ‘Les Chaumes, ‘Les Pellans’ and ‘Limouzin’. Vines are 18-60 years of age. Matured for 12 months in French oak barriques, 10% new. Wonderful freshness and precision counterpoints the richness of the ripe fruit. Notes of spiced pear intermingle with hints of white peach and brioche. Restrained unctuousness! Drink from late 2018.
Domaine Rodolphe Demougeot was created in 1992, in Meloisey, in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune. Since 1998 Rodolphe has been based in the heart of Meursault. Starting out with 3 just hectares in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, Pommard and Beaune, the estate now comprises almost 8 hectares, with plots acquired over the years in Savigny- lès -Beaune, Monthélie and Meursault.
A discreet, quietly spoken grower Rodolphe is sensitive and diligent in all his work, be it in the vines or in the cellar. He has made the choice of sustainable farming with many principles borrowed from organics or even biodynamics. He uses no herbicides or pesticides and tills his soil with horse and plough. The timing of many of his tasks are dictated by the lunar calendar. His objective is to obtain the healthiest and purest flavoured grapes possible. The harvest is 100% manual.
Natural yeasts, gentle handling and extraction as well as bottling by gravity all show Rodolphe’s desire to let his wines speak of their precise origins. The style here is one of classicism and elegance. The wines are gentle and never forced yet have a vibrancy that allows them to age superbly.
