Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits St Georges 1er Cru 'Aux Boudots' 2016 - 6 pack IN BOND

A stellar premier cru that borders Vosne-Romanee to the north and continues into Aux Malconsorts, itself indisputably one of Burgundy’s finest premier crus. Amazing intensity, this is gamey, complex, and just phenomenal. A seamless combination of perfume and power, this is sumptuous and heavenly and fans out into a velvety finish.

One of the superstar producers on the Cotes de Nuit, the Grivots have been making wine in Burgundy for nearly a century and built their reputation on their strong holdings of grand cru vineyards in Vosne-Romanee and Nuits-St-Georges. They went through a period of hedonistic levels of new oak in the 80s and early 90s, but since then under 3rd generation custodian, Etienne Grivot, the wines have become more focused and pure. Now they are amongst the most admired and collectible in Burgundy. Etienne described 2016 as ‘a crazy vintage’, mainly due to the significant frost damage in the spring which caused them to lose all their crop of Chambolle, as well as significant volumes of Clos Vougeot, Suchots, Echezeaux, Pruliers and Ronciere, amongst others. In qualitative terms, however, he is very happy, describing it as a vintage of great transparency, with wines which are likely to show well throughout their lives, as opposed to the 2015s which are already closing down.

  • Size: 750ml

In qualitative terms, however, he is very happy, describing it as a vintage of great transparency, with wines which are likely to show well throughout their lives, as opposed to the 2015s which are already closing down. It is a very successful year for Grivot, with wines of great red fruit purity, with classic Pinot Noir character and a vibrant freshness. Each terroir shows clearly in the wine, with very little vintage effect to dilute the origin of the wine. This is certainly a vintage that will please true Burgundy lovers. We have very limited stocks of these wines.
