Description

One of the most exciting wines from Sicily. Marc de Grazia hails from Piemonte but championed the revival of Mt Etna wines back in the early 2000s when vineyards cost almost nothing - now land on this majestic volcano is some of the most sought after in Europe and the wines have become globally recognised for quality and distinctiveness. He created Tenuta della Terre Nere (land of the black earth) in 2002 and has been instrumental in identifying and classifying the finest 'cru', or contrada as they are known locally, on the prestigious northern slopes of Mt Etna where the vines take some respite from the mediterranean sun thanks to aspect and altitude.

Created for the first time in 2007, owner Marc de Grazia believes rosé 'should have the body of a white wine and the soul of a red'. His goal is to be fun but not frivolous, to have tension but not austerity. Made from Nerello Mascalese and a little Nerello Capuccio, in the Provençal fashion of rosé production (the grapes are picked especially for rosé wine and given just a few hours of skin contact in the press to extract colour). The origin though dictates the style and this is much drier and slightly tannic, a definitive food rosato that is always released a year later than its cousins from France. A terrific savoury palate which makes it a fantastic rosé throughout the whole year, and is especially comfortable at the dinner table.

A delicate and refreshing wine for a Mediterranean rosé with plenty of nectarine character and subtle wildherb notes. Beautiful balance on the medium-bodied palate, then a bone-dry finish with pronounced mineral freshness. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.
