A new shipment and a new vintage of this luscious wonder from Friuli, a blend of Chardonnay (40%), Sauvignon Blanc (30%) and Friulano (30%). Unusually the three varieties are all harvested at the same time and the combined parcels pressed together, then co-fermented in large oak barrels (500L puncheons). Ageing is done in cask for a year on the fine lees with frequent batonnage (stirring), and then aged for at least another year in stainless steel tank, before further ageing in bottle until release. The result is a powerful fusion of flavours with no single varietal character coming to dominance – there is cumquat, mandarin rind and top notes of honey, woven in with liquorice flower and vanilla. The 2013 is markedly fresher than the 2012 with great energy that promises good drinking now but further improvement in bottle..
