Dönnhoff Roxenheimer Höllenpfad Riesling Trocken 2017

The name Höllenpfad means "Path to Hell" and having seen it you can understand why. It is famously difficult to work due to the savage gradient and the vineyard is situated in a side valley, with southern-facing slopes and red soils that give the impression of fire.
The wine has a soft texture with spiced fruit, peach, passionfruit with hints of honey, blossom and lemon-zest. At 12.5% alcohol, the mouth feel conveys a texture and openness presents a lovely, round, rich and very charming wine. Drinking beautifully now but as is common for Rieslings of this quality, it is also suitable for ageing.
Roxheimer Höllenpfad is an Erste Lage (roughly translated to "first class site") and carries the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) designation. This indicates the vineyard has been classified by an independant group of German wine growers as one of the best wine producing sites and can be considered similar to that of a Premier Cru vineyard.
