Robert O'Callaghan, known as 'Rocky', started off with a small vineyard plot of just over 1½ hectares in 1971, at Krondorf, in the Barossa Valley. Using equipment left by previous owners, some of it in excess of 100 years old, he set about making his own wines - they are as individual as their creator.
Ripe sweet fruit, herb and spice with tar and oak. Very traditional, resembling a top-rate Châteauneuf-du-Pape, from the outstanding 2010 vintage. Beautiful now, but will age and soften into a Barossa classic over the next 10 years.
