The Chianti Classico Riserva is the star of the Gabbiano range and is produced from 100% estate grown grapes. A Riserva of this quality would normally be priced in the £20-25 per bottle range, so this wine represents outstanding value.
The 2011 Riserva recently 'cleaned up' at the 2016 Vancouver Wine Show winning Best of Show and Best Rich Red Wine, while James Suckling scored the 2011 Riserva 92 points saying:
"Excellent red with layers of subtle fruit, toasted oak, mushroom and truffles. Full body with firm, racy tannins and a long, flavourful finish. A riserva Chianti Classico with lovely balance and structure".
Only the highest quality estate fruit is hand picked and selected for the Riserva, with natural yeast fermentation taking place partially in tank and medium sized French oak barriques, and ageing taking place in larger French oak barrels (both new and old) over 14 months.
The Riserva is darker and richer than the Chianti Classico, showing black fruits, shoe leather, liquorice and more structure. Chewy with a dry, cleansing finish heralds the outstanding food matching potential of this wine, with either meaty pasta dishes like a ragu, or grilled bistecca. Although this wine is drinking beautifully right now, it will continue to age gracefully for at least 5 years if cellared well.
Quintessential Chianti Classico Riserva that we are very proud to have on our shelves.
