Benjamin Leroux's Les Allots comes from a site planted in the 1960s, and expresses a brightness and freshness uncommon to the muscular structure of many Nuits St Georges.
Leroux (formerly the winemaker at top Pommard estate Domaine Comte Armand) is a deeply thoughtful young producer who is fast becoming a Burgundian leader. His philosophy of low intervention (organic farming, modest ripeness, restrained use of new oak) is articulated well in the precision and elegance of his wines. Immediately shy on the nose this bristles with controlled energy, and slowly opens with tightly wound red fruits, cinnamon and white pepper. The palate ripples with beautifully clean lines and an incredibly long finish. 2012 is a warm and very concentrated vintage, producing a wine with delicious intensity now but with a magical balance that is sure to age magnificently. Benjamin is a producer to watch out for.
