2015 Burgundy En Primeur - Jean Grivot

Domaine Jean Grivot

One of the superstar producers on the Cotes de Nuit, the Grivots have been making wine in Burgundy for nearly a century and built their reputation on their strong holdings of grand cru vineyards in Vosne-Romanee and Nuits-St-Georges. They went through a period of hedonistic levels of new oak in the 80s and early 90s, but since then under 3rd generation custodian, Etienne Grivot, the wines have become more focused and pure. Now they are amongst the most admired and collectible in Burgundy. We have very limited stocks of these wines. Case prices are quoted but wines will be allocated by the bottle.

Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Lavieres - £264/6 IB

A very well regarded, village level lieu-dit, that sits just below the premier cru Aux Murgers and adjacent to Vosne-Romanee. Defined by femininity and perfume and thus closer to Vosne in style than Nuits. Luminous fruit and then a very long graphite texture to finish. Fantastic length. Could be enjoyed now but wait until 2018 to drink.

Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d’Orveau - £294/6 IB

The Combe d’Orveau, as the name suggests, is a small parcel that runs up the combe (small valley) and uniquely enough it includes parcels classified as village, premier and grand cru. The Grivot parcel is deep up the valley right near the Flagy-Echezeaux border and sits at the village level, its cooler aspect most delicious in warm years like 2015. Masses of perfume, red currants and spice. Absolutely magnificent, this would better more prestigious Chambolle from other years. Wait until 2019 and drink this while the premier crus mature.

Nuits-St-Georges Les Pruliers Premier Cru - £540/6 IB

A large premier cru in the heart of Nuits-St-Georges, the name referring to the plums that were farmed here once.  The soil is rich, the site quite exposed and eroded, the wines are always complex, powerful and in need of ageing. The 2015 gushes with blue fruits, swathed in creamy tannins. There are rocky hints and notes of spice, the structure is precise and fantastic, and simultaneously dense and rich. Bloody fantastic.

Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Boudots Premier Cru - £660/6 IB

A stellar premier cru that borders Vosne-Romanee to the north and continues into Aux Malconsorts, itself indisputably one of Burgundy’s finest premier crus. Amazing intensity, this is gamey, complex, and just phenomenal. A seamless combination of perfume and power, this is sumptuous and heavenly and fans out into a velvety finish.

Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux Monts Premier Cru - £750/6 IB

Beautifully nestled against the grand cru of Echezeaux, and Les Suchots, Grivot has two plots here– an elevated parcel that maintains freshness, and a section in the Les Beaux Monts Bas, giving the wine sensuality. The intensity and perfume on these wines is incredible. If possible this is somehow more plush than Aux Boudots, a flowing mass of blue and back fruits. It’s magically ripe, rich and very long.

Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots Premier Cru - £900/6 IB

One of the finest premier cru sites in Vosne-Romanee, surrounded by illustrious grand crus and certain to be one itself were it not for the slight depression in the vineyard. Les Suchots produces exceptional wine and is more elegant than its neighbours, which include Richebourg and Romanee Saint-Vivant. Not tasted.
